Seriously, I would say padre, we got back from Galveston last week and it was horrendous.

Beat me to it and after you are done playing in the sand the first day mosey on down to Balmorhea and swim in the best swimming hole in Texas. Then you get the best sands in Texas and the best swimming in Texas all in one trip.

Thanks everyone for the advice on Texas beaches. I'm looking for something relatively close to Georgetown (by that I mean within ~6 hours drive) that I can tow my travel trailer and drive to with my 2 (soon to be 3) kids in the truck with me without asking are we there yet for a long weekend. Something like drive down on Friday and return home on Monday.

Destin doesn't meet that criteria. It's on my list of things to do in a summer or two but that will be a much longer trip.

I've done Destin a few times and we love it. Drive is a bit of a bear but the beach is great.

With that said, we're working on our first trip to SPI this summer. We'll get something nailed down in the August timeframe in the next day or two. Can't wait.
