The biggest part of the money was scholarship money the rest was mine ,and she was one of the top two students, well we are going to talk to the big Lamar to see what for sure if any will transfer, the past that the classes want transfer was coming from the advisor from the school she was going to.biggest thing the money doesn't just grow on trees for me. And she studied so hard to be in the top 2 going to school when she was sick running fever just to not miss a day then they just vote to drop the program.just sad what people will do without a thinking of others.

That should be against the law. My daughter is a nurse and I know how hard it is to get as far as your daughter did. Pray the law will make it available for her to test and move up in a new program.

I wouldn't think that nursing would be something with non-transferable credits.
No matter what, that's a terrible situation. I hope y'all get it worked out, in her favor.

          That stinks.

I looked up Lamar State College-Orange and at the bottom of their website it say "Texas State University System" - I would think she would be able to transfer somewhere. Some further searching on the internet let me to Texas State as having a nursing program. If they are in the same "system" I would think she could transfer her credits.

          Good luck.

Some school will take those credits. They are short nurses in this country and will often accept transcripts even if they say they will not.

When they say the credits are not transferable, they probably mean they won't transfer to a 4 year university. There are 2 "flavors" of college credit: workforce and academic. Academic credits generally transfer to a 4 year university and workforce credits do not. Workforce credits based on state approved Workforce Education Course Manual classes usually transfer between workforce programs at different colleges but the new college will require the student to complete a certain number of classes at their campus. Her best bet is to check around to see what program(s) she is interested in transferring into then talk to the counselors there.

Shouldn't she be able to transfer all of her credits to Lamar Beaumont? It seems like she should. Hope it all works out for her.

Sucks but it happens all the time. One of my close friends applied to an RN program within the same school branch and they would even transfer the credits

She may not be on financial aid, but If she took out federal student loans, she does not have to pay them back if the school closes the program.

Every one of my student aid loans has that in the print.

"In circumstances such as certain kinds of teaching service, total and permanent disability, or the closure of the school where you were studying, your obligation to repay your federal student loan may be removed. Learn about forgiveness, cancellation, or discharge of federal student loans due to these and other situations." Studentaid.ed.gov

Like I said, it may not apply to her, but I'd check the fine print.

In checking for general information from the Board of Nursing, I found the following:

Lamar state in Port Arthur had their approval revoked by the BON in January of this year and are teaching out the students currently enrolled.

Lamar State Orange only had conditional approval and was not fully accredited. This may be the reason that nothing will transfer to other colleges.

Maybe she can request a transfer to their nursing program to finish out the last year? She may also try calling the BON to see if they can help point her in the right direction as far as possible other schools she can attend and maybe they will allow some things to transfer.
