While it may be aggressive and the owners may be negligent, if you shoot it do the right thing and finish it off. It shouldn't have to suffer if it is not something that it will be given the chance to correct. Always double tap. First shot to kill second shot to put it out of its misery.
for those of you that are saying to poison the dog, you are sick screwed up people.............if the dog needs to be dealt with then deal with. I won't get on here and say I haven't killed a dog for acting wrong BUT POISONING A DOG IS JUST SICK, if you can't handle taking care of business quickly with a firearm then find a MAN to do the job for you, poisoning an animal is so screwed up on so many levels.
Please dont poision, my Jack Russel got into rat bait and its terrible. Ive shot a few, mostly with 22-250 in the country but I suppose a shotgun would work best in this situation. The first mistake you made was mentioning it here, or to any other neighbor, hell I wouldnt even tell my wife. Just do the deed and move on.
I had a Australian shepard cross that I could not keep in the yard...He'd climb the fence, dig under, knocked my kids down everytime they opened the gate etc.. what ever he had to do to get out. He got out (the last time) and nipped the neighbors 6 yo daughter on the back of the leg bad enough to draw blood. He came over and told me about it PO'd and rightfully so...I went and got my pistol and gave it to him and told him to shoot the dog, he had the right! He could not do it, so I did. No patients with animals that behave badly.
Yea, poisoning ain't gonna happen. Nor will anything else that doesn't take care of it quickly and without any suffering. I have no qualms with dispatching a dog HUMANELY if the dog fully deserves it.
That being said, the dog has not been seen by anyone I've talked to since yesterday morning.
