You can take the red drum tag on your license to any license dealer and obtain your bonus red drum tag. This will interrupt your trip and be an inconvenience, but you could get the other tag in the same day.
Technically if you got the bonus tag, you could have 5 legally in your possession if the two bonus tags are properly obtained and on the fish.

You have to send in the original oversized tag, with the bay system and your name before you get another tag. So you can only keep your slot limit and 1 oversized. Therefore 4 reds with original tag and then after you receive the bonus tag you can keep another 4. You are NOT allowed to keep 5.

Remember this if you were to keep an oversized Red w/o a tag you will have to pay the state the cost of raising said fish - this can be 30 - 40 years and this can be VERY costly!!!! We were fishing in Port A and everyone was catching big Bull Reds and when I was walking out on the jetty there were two guys with poles out and when I went to duck under their lines I noticed no lines and price tags on their reels?? I asked em bout it and they informed me they were Game Wardens and they were writing people up for keeping oversized Reds and one of em told me that each Redfish kept that night was averaging about $3,000 to replace plus a fine plus confiscation of vehicle and tackle!!

You have to apply for the second one by mailing in the first used tag. Even if you use the $40 overnight express mail it won't be back by the time you get off the water.
FTR: I read it as you can keep 3 slot reds and 1 over 28" for a total of 4 fish.
Bingo!! It ain't that hard to figure out. No way you can get the second bonus tag with out getting away from the water.

In 1997 I caught a 47 inch fish in the surf on trout gear. When I finally landed it the fish died with in a minute due to being so tired. I kept it used tag and ate it.
Back then you had to mail it off.
