Would You Have Killed This Snake?

I hit the river 2 days ago late in the afternoon to see if I could find an arrahead. It is about a 10 minute walk through some of the thickest nastiest overgrown woods I have ever walked through. The entire trail is choked with weeds and with the recent rains, it is flooded out with nasty ol swamp water.

I made it to the river and searched for past history and after an hour of searching, I stumbled across one.

The sun was starting to set on the trees so figured I would get on out of there while I could still see. About a minute into the walk on the choked out trail, I literally stepped maybe 3 inches away from this dude!

He could of easily lit my rear end up! I stood there a bit startled and was fixing to let him have it with my walking stick but a thought came over me. He could of ruined my day big time but chose not to so I decided not to ruin his. With a little nudge from my walking stick he was on his way.

Then I had to walk thru this again with shadows sinking in on me.

A 10 minute walk turned into 45 minutes dang near stopping every step....but it was worth it.

My thought process would have likely been the same as yours. I'll side with you on this one!

I would have let him pass, too. He was minding his business in the woods, and so were you. Snake aside, this is the coolest thread I've read all day. Your pictures and story telling are too notch!

You're a better man than me! I'd walk through there 10 times to find a point like that though. Really cool!!

if it was a spot that I didn't think myself or anyone else would be visiting much due to its seclusion then I MIGHT have let him go just as you did. But if it had been a spot that I knew I would come back to often or knew others would be tromping through often I would have taken the opportunity to make sure future bites from that fella were not an issue

Yup I would have... If nothing else than to save someone else the pain of being bitten by that sucker or one of it's offspring sometime in the future... Possibly a child...

Last one I saw on a creek was leaving there faster than I was. I will kill them if I can't outrun them.

I probably would have whacked him, in case he changed his mind next time
