Are you tight enough to just ask your boss if he has a timeline of when hes going to move up or transfer without it negatively affecting you? I could do that with mine but all situations are different.
My boss and I talk about this probably once a month. He is really at the mercy of the growth of the company which is currently rapid. He could be promoted in 6 months or not at all. He wants me to have his job as much as I do, because that will mean he has received the job he wants also.
