    Go 10' if it's a small place 8' If it's a huge place.

I have been driving past a ranch for 12 years that has a large Axis population
And they stay behind a ragged old sagging 4.5 ( or what ever standard fence height is) and very rarely see one on the road
So I would imagine a 5-6 foot fence would be plenty

I wouldn't go less than 8'. Also be prepared to repair a lot of fencing if you are going to have Axis bucks on both sides of the fence.

I agree, I would not place barb wire across the top, sure loosing one due to it jumping the fence would suck BUT losing one or having it badly injured by being hung up in barb wire would be much worse. Plus if you are hand raising them and taming them down a bit it shouldn't be that hard to coax a fence jumper back into your pen in the event that it does make it out. I think you would be ok with an 8' fence but 10' would be best if it is in the budget.

No other Axis around. It's in Hardin County. There are Coyotes, and lost a good buck a couple years ago to them. I was planning on running a couple hot wires around the outside to keep predators out.

I was driving thru the hill country a few weekends ago, and outside leaky had three axis running parallel to a 8' fence. They then just decided to jump over it and cross the road in front of my truck. So i'm certain an 8' wont hold them if they really want out.....

I have a large portion of my ranch that has six to six & half foot fence. My neighbor turned a bunch of Axis loose on his place. So far I have shot 5 Axis Bucks. This is one of them I shot out the front door of the house.
