        The smoke from the box travels under a plate in the chamber and goes back over the food to the stack pipe on the box end and also helps equalize the heat.

          Just a Thought,i had a smoker built and where your Fire Box meets the cooker that open half round space just inside cut you a half round pice and make a deflector so when the smoke and heat enters your cooker it push's it down and will force it more evenly across the bottom of your grate to your stack..Just a suggestion

              I see what you mean on the reverse flow, have you ever seen the Pittmakers Vault. Very similar except it is a up right cooker and the smoke and heat draw up the side and back down into the chamber,they double insulate the smoker box and cooker. Check out their web site

                    I really like the base, nice solid work.

                    If you need a handle and grate design, get with me when the time comes. I built some stainless steel grates for my grill that have really worked out nice, and I have a design for a tubing handle that can me made to any length.

                      10-4, plan on building 10 of these in somewhat different variations.
