Yesterday, I stalked with ten yards of a decent sounder. The whole lot of the them were napping the afternoon away. High wind made a difference, despite my wind crossing them at one point. It kept my noise down. I shot one while it napped on its side. A problem that I think a lot of people have is moving too quickly. Go slow, read everything you see, listen well, and use the wind to your advantage. I knew the general area the hogs would be, but I could smell them from fifty yards away. An established sounder will defecate regularly in a given bedding area. If the wind is right, you can pick up the scent. Admittedly, the whole scent thing is hit or miss for me. But, when you smell it, you cannot mistake it.

Typically if I smell them I'm already within bow range.
