To me these seem a little hard for a first grader. It's a good thang shees smarterer then mes and i's fogots to mentsion shees is a fantastick spiller.
I'm amazed at the levels that kids learn at. My older girls, in college now, learned things in the 6th grade that I was learning in 8th grade. The twins, in 4th grade now, are learning those same things in 4th grade.
I too have been shocked by the level of difficulty in their spelling words from 1st grade on. Lucky for them, their Dad is competitive enough not to get outsmarted by a kid.
Ironically, school is the only place that my kids don't use technology to learn. They're on an iPad or computer at home very often. However, in school they still learn from textbooks and handouts. Seems counterproductive.

Next year, all of our kids 6-12 will have tablets issued to them. 3-5 will have tablets issued but they must remain at school. k-2 will have a tablet rack between each grade in each school. Over 10,000 tablets total. I'm pretty proud that our district is taking that step towards using technology in everyday learning.
On a serious note fantastic and foundation seems a little much for a first graders who can barely tie a shoe or give themselves a bath. I guess times have changed.
