As a kid growing up I always loved being at Grandma's during the summer time. She a fig tree and introduced me into picking and eating straight from the tree. Just loved them, and still do. I can enough to get a "good" cleaning out, if you know what I mean?

This past weekend my wife and I took our girls up to the farm. My Uncle said his tree is just full of figs. He picked about 1 gallon and half for me to bring home. My girls love to eat them too. The figs are nice and sweet too!

Ol Man - I'll get you a recipe for fig preserves from my MIL tomorrow. She gave me a jar last Thursday and it is some good stuff. I ate me a mess of ripe ones off my buddys tree on the 4th. They were purple and sweeeeeeet.

20 years ago when I worked at Euless Lumber, we had a big fig tree growing at a rear corner of the building, back by the cement shed. We used to pick 'em and eat 'em all the time. Mmmm, Mmmm, good!

                    Lemon preserved Figs:
1 1/2 gal. whole figs. Wash, cut off stems, set aside
In large stock pot: pour in 4 LB white granulated sugar.
Add 5 cups water and 1 sliced lemon.
Bring sugar/water mixture to a boil that can't be stirred down.
Pour in figs and cook for appx 30 minutes.
Put in jars and seal tightly.
                    They will last for YEARS!!!!
