im not really a mechanic, but my guess is a fuel delivery problem. it will be on the side of the engine with cylinder 1, (bank 1). probably an injector....

Could be injectors or maybe you need a tune up just my guess

2004 - 2008 F150 - 05 f150 p0172 System too rich bank 1 - Hey guy i have a 05 F150 with a 5.4 keep getting a code for system too rich bank 1. I can clear the code and it will come back any where from 5 miles to 150 miles later. I have a new MAF that i have cleaned. I checked for leaks in the vacuum system and PCV...

              engine performance.

Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
It can also be caused by low fuel.pressure or dirty injectors all this info is online if that helps you.

Hey, at least they circled the problem.

X3, start with the coil pack, pull the plugs and look for fouling to determine cylinder

It is acting more like fuel delivery than a misfire. But I will be checking all the suggestions. Thanks.

Something on bank 1 makes it run rich, so it could be a leaking injector, leaking fuel pressure regulator, a bad spark plug, coil pack, a bad o2 sensor before cat on bank one.
Time to check the basics then go from there.

Bad coil pack and/or fuel rail/injector.
