Here is a thread that I started a few years back. I did not continue it as I had intended to, but might actually start adding to it again. There are a lot of examples of shots on this thread that may give you a better idea of shot placement. Since that thread I have changed my shot placement a little, but like I stated previously there are a lot of different ways to kill a hog

A hog can OFTEN survive a one lung shot. The fat seals the entry hole and prevents air from sucking in and collapsing both lungs. If he does die, it can take a long time. Low and forward. Right above the elbow.

Just wondering how many of those who are offering up advise have killed multiple boars that go in the mid 200's? I kill alot of hogs with my bow and some of these responses have my shaking my head.

I've cleaned and skinned several dozen hogs of all sizes, this whole shield thing is a bit over rated IMO. I'm not arguing they have some thick hide and tough meaty shoulders but the whole shield concept...I think has been exaggerated with time.

By your response it sounds like you don't think boars have a shield. If this is your thinking then your dead wrong. The shield has nothing to do with their hide or a meaty shoulder. The more a boar hog fights the thicker the shield will get as the shield is basically made of scare tissue. I have seen 200+ boar hogs with very thin shields and I've seen them with shields about 1.5 inches thick. I've heard stories of the shields getting over 3 inches thick but I have a hard time believing it since I've never seen one over about 1.5 inches and I've seen 100's of them.

Why would you gut shoot a hog?

Cause very time a made a poor shot on one and hit straight guts the pig piled up not far away

What everyone has said. I got lucky on a 100# sow At GRXH. She came in downwind of me and as I drew my MOAB and she hit my scent stream, she hit the afterburner as I released at eight yards. Hit her in the ham and got Femoral artery, she sprayed blood for eighty yards and then had good spots for the next 40 yards. Followed the blood at a trot.

Man, get you a cross bow. I will be to that point some day too. Got my wife one last year as she broke her arm just before season. She got her biggest buck ever with a cross bow this season. I shot a couple hogs with it too... deadly weapon! Fun to shoot too.

Ha, I have had good teachers! I sure wish you could make it out there this weekend. It is going to be a slaughter. I wasn't planning on hunting, but Troy is putting the pressure on me . Between the 6 of us, there should be a few hogs hit the dirt.
