Thanks for the invite for Cody Dieter but we'll be gone by then.
Where will you go to fly fish around Cody?
Too bad we can't connect for some fishing. I'll be fishing on Tuesday, but I hear that a lot of the streams are still blown out. The North Fork of the Soshone is supposedly starting to clear. I resort to some of the smaller streams like the Greybull or Clark's Fork when the Soshone is blown out. I also enjoy fishing the park. If I have some extra time then I travel over to the Henry's Fork or the Madison.
Enjoy your trip!

Went through Yellowstone and the Tetons yesterday thn down the Snake to Jackson, down to MontPeiler Idaho where we had to call it quits.
I could have stopper in a thousand places to fish.
I forgot how beautiful that run was.
Down through Utah and maybe into Colorado today.
The Shoshone was very muddy.

Today was anther long drive from Montpeiler Idaho into Utah, Wyoming, Utah, then Colorado with a stop at Ft Jim Bridger around lunch.
I got a few good pics of Old Faithful and the falls at Yellowstone.
At Bridger they had a bear trap from 1900 that looked alot like a hog trap!
The last picture is of the welcome sign at Rangely Colorado.
Nostradenis foresaw me passing through and for some reason I felt compelled to take this picture.

We came down through old 89 Oragon trail then over to Bridger then down through the Quera(?) National Park area where I'm trying to bum a Elk hunt if Virginia will let me. Then through Rangley where Nostradenis used to live to Glenwood.
We saw one Elk up in the park and alot of Mule deer alon the way. Pretty cool.

Home Sweet home.
We finally got back to Austin late this afternoon.
At Glenwood Springs, Colorado, our theme on the trip changed from museums and historical locations to roads.
We made the special trip to Glenwood Spring because I, a brother of a road engineer and another brother who's a TXDOT road guy,
truly enjoys driving.
Especially the I-70 Glen Canyon section.
In my opinion it the greatest section of interstate in the nation.
It could stand on it's own as a work of art.
To hang an entire interstate on the canyon walls is spectacular.
I can't imagine in our current national hyper sensitive environmental bend, that this road would ever be funded let alone built.
How crazy it must of been when the planning committee told the bidding contractors "we wanna see how you're gonna get us through the Glen canyon".
90% of them probably laughed and walked out.
I went east bound from Glenwood Springs till we got through the canyon and then turned around and came back.
After I got my kix in the Canyon it was off to Durango for the next big road thrill.
The switchbacks from Ouray to Silverton!
As soon as you pull out of Ouray you hit the first switchback and you ask yourself "why I'm I doing this".
All the way down to Ouray we could see the rain ahead and I was hoping it would wait till we got through the bad part but no luck.
I like to think I can drive, fly or sail anything, planes, boats, heavy equipment, (a train is still on the list to do before I die) but I'll admit my palms were sweaty when we finally broke out of the bad part.
God bless the people who driver it everyday, and also especially the snowplow guys and the maintenance guys.
The only really bad thing was a huge recreational vehicle had broke down and was parked kind of lopsided on the mountain side of the road leaving us just a little room to squeeze by on the death side of the road.
Must have been a thousand feet down on our side and I went by about 1 mile an hour till we had our full lane back.
What a thrill!
Once we made it to Durango the low tire pressure bell went off and we had a nail in our left rear tire.
I'm glad it didn't cause a problem on the switchbacks.
Early yesterday we got a serious phone call from home which called an end to the trip so we made it to Sweetwater from Durango last night and home today.
At Ft Sumner we made a quick stop at Billy the kids grave and someone finally got his headstone back. I wonder how long it will stay this time.
As a side note Lew Wallace the New Mexico Territory Governor offered the Kid amnesty.
The kid should have taken it.
Lew Wallace ended up writing "Ben Hur a tale of the Christ".
Our 14 day trip turned out to be a fast 9 day 4000 mile trip.
Austin to Colby Kansas. 1 night.
Colby to Chadron Nebraska. 1 night.
Chadron to Cody Wyoming. 3 nights.
Cody to Montpelier Idaho. 1 night.
Montpelier to Glenwood Springs. 1 night.
Glenwood to Durango Colorado. 1 night.
Durango to Sweetwater Texas. 1 night.
Sweetwater to Austin.
