When I have the arm completely straight the string hits my forearm. I should post a pic of the wicked 3" long rash that put a stop to my shooting last night. Should I be able to hold my arm completely straight?

It should be straight but not hyperextened and there is nothing wrong with wearing an arm guard. I've slapped myself in the past more time than I care to remember. I also almost knocked myself out when my string loop broke but that's another story all together.

Congrats! You might want to back off shooting so much and work up to it. I did about 20 shots per day for the first few days then worked in more until my muscles knew what to do. lol For what it's worth, I curl my wrist slightly and have never hit my wrist with the string.

Ditto to what DaveS903 said about a slight bend in the wrist, but you can also slightly bend at your elbow, thats how i shot with my elbow bent out just slighty..Good Luck and practice a little and build up your muscles,After you kill your first animal you'll be hooked it is so awesome to kill an animal with a great shot and enjoy the taste of your harvest..GOOD LUCK....Brian

You can hold it straight...but try to rotate your elbow outwards instead of having it inwards towards the bow. This should fix you up fine.

Congrats on the new obsession and addiction that is afflicting all of us here at TBH...
