    DANG the IRS!!

I'm not sure if I ever started a Rant thread and typically I don't like them but.....
On second thought how about a " talk me out of working so much thread"
I am a professional fireman and on my days off I work another job. Basically a full time job. I do this because like my dad I am addicted to work. I hate not having a job to do when I am not at the FD. Well as a result this past year I made more money than I ever dreamed I would. Not huge money but more than I thought possible for me. Wife called me at FD tonight with results of CPA visit and it appears that we owe more money. This is typical for us because we don't believe in loaning the gov. My money and hoping to get some of it back. But this year instead of owing $500-3500 it's $8500!!!! Needless to say I nearly had a heart attack and I could tell my wife was about to have one fearing my reaction.
This $8500 is only a few grand less than my part time job paid all year.
So, knowing my part time work is basically going to pay for Obama care subsidies and welfare checks shouldn't I just quit and work on my short game golf in the back yard?

Don't quit your job. There are people depending on you to work hard to support them. If you don't work two jobs they may actually have to go out and get one. If the free checks stop they may have a heart attack.

do you max out your 401k, IRAs, HSA, etc. that will reduce your tax burden? I would look at the extra money as a way to bump up those accounts.

Sucks when you better yourself and they penalize you for it.

I thought I was so there will be some consults in the next few days you can bet on that.
Pretty much I decided to use the second job money to kinda start a Dave Ramsey type deal. Nearly every penny has been going to pay off little nagging debts. I'd hoped to keep that rolling but this little draw back will stifle that progress.

So you taxes are what you earned on your second job??? Quit it and chip some balls or go fishing. Let the freeloaders fend for themselves...
