I won't have another craftsman. I bought an Echo a couple of years ago and starts every time.

I went with the stihl kombi setup 5 years ago and so far its been trouble free. I always use the fuel stabilizer as recommended by the dealer.

I've got a buddy w/ a Stihl. He really likes it. I have an Echo w/ straight shaft. I'vehad zero problems it runs like a champ very time. This will be the 8th season for this piece if equipment. I've had to do nothing to it but put in new line and gas. Excellent piece of equipment.

Been selling Echos for 18 years; most commercial guys use Echo or Stihl. Landscapers have told me they get 3-6 years out of Echos, using them every day; homeowners often get 10 or more years, as noted above. Won't go wrong with either brand. Key would be to use a product such as Ethanol Shield to protect against ethanol's corrosive effects on fuel lines and even metal internal parts. As also pointed out above, you could use a pre-mixed fuel/oil product at a premium price (about $5 for a quart). I also would advise you to shy away from a used trimmer, since (depending where you buy it) your warranty may drop from 5 years (new, consumer-use) down to 30 days, and you might only save 25 percent off new price.

Not trying to thread jack, but do y'all prefer strait or curved shaft? I've always had curved have been considering getting a strait shaft? And no dirty jokes!!

I use a maruyama bt23l trimmer and I love it. Was the lightest of all I found two years ago and it still starts on the second pull.

Husq, Stihl, Echo - straight shaft and one is as good as the other.
