I was just in Gander Mountain and they had about a dozen 50 round boxes of Federal...$24.99 per box! I asked the guy behind the counter and he said it was some match grade stuff

As far as why wouldn't Academy hold some back to sell later on, why would they? They are in the business of selling so they are actually benefiting from the shortage. If they can sell out every time they get a shipment and not slow the momentum of the shortage it is in their best interest to do so.

Academy does atleast limit the number of boxes you can buy, and they are usually priced reasonably. They did it for all the popular calibers when the crisis hit and now just do it for the 22. I've gone it at times and seen 40-50 50 round boxes stacked up behind the counter. Of all the stores, I feel like they atleast make an effort to try to get some to everyone.

It is CTD's fault for their price, but it is also the idiots that pick it up everytime they see it regardless if they need it or not.

if it was $15 for CCI minimag I'd bought some. That's the only thing that works reliably in one of my pistols and it's impossible to find these days.

Try Federal Bulk ammo. I used to shoot a lot, and this is the only ammo I buy for my pistols(Buckmark, Ruger, and High Standard). I won't even buy Remington if I see it.
