The way I read it is if there is not closed season, you can hunt them year around, as long as you have a hunting license and use the proper equipment. The license and proper equipment is the biggy. You pretty much need a license to shoot almost anythig in Texas. I remember a few years back somebody got in a slam for killing a mocassin in his/or parents pond without a license. How anybody found out, I have no idea. As to using an air rifle, Dig out your tpwd "Outdoor Annual" and start on page 58. You'll find your answer. I'm too lazy. If you don't have one, Walmart can fix you up with one. They're free.

Well just looked and page 76 in outdoor book has squirrel as a non game animal. And says " these animals may be hunted at any time by any lawful means or methods on private property." And page 59 states nongame animals can be hunted with any lawful firearm, pellet gun or other airgun legally. Theres the answer
