Yeah, I've never done the spray foam just thought it'd be a good idea. I used black foam 1" pipe wrap and shoved it into the gaps between the funnel and barrel. Worked like a champ!

I guess I'm not following as I've never been down this road. It seems these funnels are TIGHT, which is why they are so hard to install....but if that's the case, what is the foam for? If the foam is necessary because there are gaps.....why are they so hard to install?

I don't do the funnels--never saw the need as I dump my feeders once per year in the summer to get all the dust and bugs out of them. Then I set them back up, fill them, and start them out again. All are barrels and none larger than 55-gal so it's relatively easy to do.

The bolts for the feeder leg bracket gets in the way and makes it difficult to get it in position. They also keep the top of the funnel from laying flush with the side of the barrel. A couple pieces of foam in the gap takes care of it.

I stood on the funnel and stomped it down when I built mine.

I am sure I looked like a rodeo clown stomping around in those barrels and disappearing down in the barrel from time to time.

I tried to install the funnels before and found that I am not patient enough to get em in before breaking them. I don't use them and have never had a problem. I do the same as "dustoffer," just dump em in the summer.

I used a 4x4 post and a tractor front end loader to push it down in there. I also took the leg brackets off first.

Ive put in several funnels in 55gal drums they slipped right in. I put the funnel in then attach the leg brackets.

I guess I could've drilled through the funnel to allow for the bolt placement, but just whacked it with a sledge hammer and all is good

If I were a smart man, I probably would've went with your decision. But then, what would I use my sledge hammer for

I have heard that if you lay the barrel down and through a few scoops of pea gravel in the barrel it makes the cone slide in easily. Oh and if you leave the pea gravel in the barrel it will save on corn!
