Jen found this in her family e-mail account that I sent her way back in 2005 the day after we found out that our first child was going to be a boy. John must have posted this, and I e-mailed it to her to print and put in Logan's Baby Book.
It's the one real regret that still lingers, the boys missed out on more than I could ever teach them, and John has missed out on 3 wonderful little boys that would have adored him. Heck one of them carries his name. Reading this was a bit of a kick to the gut and something must have gotten in my eyes, but I thought it was worth the share.

Well, the middle blond called and gave us the news. Looks like the baby will be a boy. I know it has to be a little sad for my youngest daughter. She was planning on being the cool aunt that taught her neice how to dance, and twirl flags, and have a neice to wear all those dance costumes, etc. Well, she'll just have to wait. And the Grandma, well she was going to be able to sew lots of costumes and go to recitals and stuff. Well, she'll have to wait. Of course, you never know, he might like ballet, color guard, and dance recitals; so, there's hope for them yet.
Maybe I'll have someone to go with me and sit in the blinds with me like the middle blond did. I'll have to pull some of the rifles out of storage. May have to get my #1 25/06 back from my nephew. It'll give me an excuse to buy a .17 HMR and probably a 22/250. I think I'll also get a Ranger ATV so that I can carry him around the ranches. I wonder if they have car seats that will go on one of those things. Gotta check and see if they have baby Buslan. If not, maybe I can get the old, err..first blonde to make a couple outfits. Mailman has a couple outfits for him in MO, but that's not a Texas camo. Gotta start looking to see what kind of battery cars there are now. My daughters had electric 4 wheelers and my nephew had electric Big Foot. I've got to see what's out there and have one ready to roll. Think he'll be ready to drive one by 6 months? Maybe I'll get another boat and teach him to bass fish. Do they still have the Texas State Bass Tournament? Maybe we'll win the grandpa/grandson division. I've got boxes and boxes of worms, hard baits, etc going unused. Maybe he'll win the Classic one day using some of my vintage stuff. 30 or 40 All Star and Castaway rods should help him. He should be set for duck hunting also. Should never have to worry about decoys. Gotta get him a shotgun. Maybe when he's 2. Bear Panda bow probably not long down the road. My Z71 is still running well, maybe I'll let him have it for a ranch truck when he's 16. Should have close to 750,000 miles on it by then.
I loved going to my daughters' recitals and stuff, but I was just a spectator. Wasn't much for a daddy to do. Neither cared about hunting or fishing, and that was just fine. I never pushed them into anything. I let them decide what they wanted to get into. Band, Color Guard, Drill Team, dance, those were the things they loved and they were really great at all of it and I enjoyed going and watching them. But now, maybe, unless he likes the same stuff that they did, I'll get to be the teacher, not just a spectator. Of course, he could hit the ground dreaming about be a ballet dancer and the first guy in the drill team. Well, it'll be a hard pill to swollow, but I guess I could be a spectator again.
