Okay... You can't go that far. Even if you don't count the upfront capital investment, you still pay money each deer you process.

For instance... If I am making 25 lbs of sausage, I am paying $7 for casings, $7 for seasonings, $7 for pork and $5 for vacuum packaging. That is $26 in cost. Straight burger is cheaper (a few $ for fat and packaging.) Cuts are the cheapest (just packaging)

      I say I spend between $10 and $30 a deer.

My processor will cut all the steaks and run them through the tenderizer and grind what's left into hamburger or pan sausage for $50

I do all my own processing myself, except when it comes to dry sausage.

I quarter mine and drop off on a nice chest. $65.00 for hamburger, back straps and sliced jerky. ( ready for me to make my own jerky)

I did my own for years. Got tired of it. As stated above, it's the add-ons that mount up the cost.

Wow, that could have been a load of choice rib eyes! it doesn't take that long to do it at home. I miss out on the snack sticks and other novelties, but I know that the meat I get back is 100% mine.

The place I use in Lewisville has really good prices. I average 45 bucks per deer for standard processing (burger, butterflied steaks, chicken fried tenderloins, and stew meat). Bring them in a big ice chest quartered, and pick your meat up a week or two later. Great operation.

I started processing my own. I will combined all of the hamurger grind meat and freeze till the end of season after I have two or three deer i will take it in and it cost me a $50 bill to have Taylor meats grind it up and add beef fat. Pretty good deal.
