Wife had an 11' limited with hemi. We loved it, but we travel almost every weekend and after we had a kid, it was kinda small to haul all our stuff around. Don't get me wrong, they have a good amount of room, we were just tired of having to tetris everything in every time so we got an extended expedition. Comfort wise, I like the jeep hands down. That expedition isn't very comfy for long trips compared to the jeep. Also, jeep had sooo much power, huge engine, smaller vehicle. Gas mileage on it always seemed right around 20, not bad imo. We only towed a small trailer with it once, only weighed about 1500lbs, no issues, but again, large engine, small car.

The new grand cherokee diesel seems awesome! The 2wd gets 22 city and the 4wd gets 21 city. The price tag is not so awesome, $53,000 for a loaded 4wd

Bought a 2014 in December and got the diesel 4X4. I love it, first car that I've actually been excited about in years. Really comfortable and quiet. The diesel is great. It has gobs of torque and I am really pleased with the mileage. I now have 6200 miles on it and my total city/highway driving average is 25 mpg. Out on the highway I average 30mpg and if I drive with some care I have gotten as much as 32 out of it.
That mileage beats my '07 Yukon XL all to pieces.

Towing on the '14 diesel is 7400 lbs. It comes with heavy duty breaks, oil and transmission coolers.
As to the price I didn't pay anywhere near 53k for mine. I got the Limited, not the Overland or the Summit. It would have been nice if the diesel came as an option on the Laredo but no.
I don't care what you look at there just doesn't seem to be what I would call an inexpensive car these days. At least not in 4X4 and especially if you add the diesel.
We also looked at the 4 door Jeep Wranglers and I was really impressed. They are roomy and don't drive anything like the old jeeps I remember. If you do your shopping you can have one of those for around 28.5K.
