What is best way to clean/dust a shoulder mount?

I've heard of pledge on the fur and WD-40 on the antlers/horns. Mine need some serious cleaning. Any suggestions appreciated.

Vacuum cleaner with a dust brush attachment.

Compressed air; feather duster; If it has REALLY caked-on dust, you might try brushing it first and then use the air. A damp cloth should remove dust from the antlers. I have NEVER used Pledge or WD-40 on any mount for any reason.

On the outdoor channel a taxidermist said to put some mineral spirits on a rag and wipe the mount down. Mineral spirits are like paint thinner?

I heard the pledge/WD-40 on a hunting show about a year ago. If I remeber right, was a female taxidermist somewhere in Texas.

Always use a feather duster.

I use a bounce like the ones you put in the clothes dryer. Actually you can use a used one, it takes the dust off the coat real well. But if it is heavy use light air and a damp cloth. Use pledge on the antlers after they have dried real good from the damp cloth cleaning.

Compressed air, as Chance mentioned, is a good way to go when really dusty..... just make sure you are outside!!
I use a damp paper towel to wipe down my mounts, even my birds. A Q-Tip with a drop of Windex will clean the eyes well. 2 to 4 times a years for this.
I also wipe/dab antlers and horns with a 50/50 mix of linseed oil and turpentine. Once a year will do for this. If you have a mount in a location that has direct heat, like over a fire place, under an air vent, or in the sun.... move it is best, but the antlers and horns will dry out faster, so maybe twice a year would be best.

I can't believe how...

...dusty they can get. I use the compressed air and duster.....I know when I see a cob web in the horns, it's time to climb up & dust him off.
