We have gum and maple trees that take over up here so I cut at ground level with chainsaw then drill a 1/2 inch hole in stump and pour a little straight roundup on it DEAD! If no roundup I'm sure some home made stuff can be found on YouTube. Have to do same on pecan trees in my flower garden that squirrels so nicely plant for me.

Spray first or they will just come back from the roots left in ground.

              Tree saw

This i how I do it. I can cut them off even with the ground. Then I spray them so they dont come back.

I had a shore line full of willow trees that I dug out by hand. I was 20 years younger though. Now I would rent a tractor with a front end load and pull them up. Then spray any thing that comes up with brush killer.
