Some of our guys have done the sac-crete thing and it does work. I'm thinking about experimenting with the staked down chainlink fence material or hog panels at some property where I actually feed the hogs to keep 'em around... big holes under the feeders there is a constant battle and I've never wanted to spend the money to concrete 'em all in...

I've seen people put wood panels underneath, the deer and pigs still eat off of it but no mud holes.

Deer like the pens much more that you think. Use 12+ panels per pen and they will have plenty of room. You will have better problems.

Wow! All these recommendations and nobody has recommended pea gravel. Fill feeder with half corn and pea gravel, as feeder throws it automatically fills the holes!

We have done studies over the last few years involving penning or not penning when it comes to mature deer. WHat we have found is that most pens 32 foot a side with hog panel does little to spook the mature whitetail. Once all feeders are fenced you will be surprised by the amount of feed you don't waste on hogs, how many more deer you will see using your feeder pen as well as hog sighting itself declining. Now with that said you will still have the problem of those big mature deer visiting your feeder in the middle of the night. They are not old because they are dumb. Good luck.

Staking down hog panels is what we do. Inexpensive, easy solution.

I've done this. It works sometimes, they root underneath sometimes too. Feeder pens are the only thing that has worked 100% for me.

sounds like I need to try stake down some hog panels flat. If that doesn't fly I guess i'll be stuck making pens. All of these suggestions are good. I promise you i'll try 2 or 3 of them prior to erecting a pen though. I just have so many to do. Its not i'm afraid of the work, its more the time involved for us weekend warriors.

you mean flat underneath the feeder or around like a pen?

We weren't feeding as many animals so we had feed laying on the ground that wasn't being eaten. We cut back on the amount we spun out.

Maybe a electric fence wire about 8 inches off the ground around the feeder low wnough the deer could step over but sap the hogs just a idea

Man if y'all think a feeder pen will detour mature what do you think laying panel under a feeder will. A mature buck atleast on our place will never play hop scotch with a panel on the ground!
