What are you going to mount the skins on when you're done tanning them? I've tried gluing mine onto felt rugs and they look great, but after a couple of years the glue is coming loose. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I'm looking for a better way to attach the skins to the felt backing.

huntresss, if I remember from some of your posts, you do numerous snake skin projects. Have you considered or already tried out sewing them onto your fabric? Sewing machine that is.

No I haven't. I was afraid that by perforating the skins with so many holes that they would tear too easily. I may have to try that if I don't get advice from somebody who has found a better method- no need trying to reinvent the wheel! Right now I use hot melt glue, which seems to hold up the best, but some skins that I did about five years ago are coming loose from the felt backing a little bit.

I understand, just a thought. Those folks that make snakeskin belts, wallets, hatbands, etc. I'm guessing do some sewing. Not sure of their process though. Might have to wrap the edges with fabric. Seems like I remember reading an article about it once before.

not much left to do for a few days now. I checked them this morning and went ahead and brushed on another coat of the tanning oil. Now we wait. Took measurements for my two boards I will be getting. Will work on getting those maybe this weekend or so. Dont know when the guy is open for sure. May run out there shortly If not there can get phone number off sign or something.

Pulled em down from the hiding places and oiled the big one again! Probably didn't need it but looked a little drier than little one.

Have a couple custom boards being cut Tuesday

Any suggestions for mounting straight to boards- no felt etc. Glue, double back quality tape?

Pulled smaller hide off board tonight. It turned out great. Holes in it were from killing it with rock. Big one has no holes. This one is very pliable and soft except along the edges. I will trim edges smooth or with planking scissors and then attach to my good boards - once I get them
