I hate they lost the deer. I wish we had the rest of the story. Definitely guts on the arrow? Dead deer eventually. It seems they would start where the deer was jumped with the dog.

That was a crazy deal to trail a hog shot that long ago!

Apparently just some type of "film" on the arrow and a lot of white hair on the ground at the shot. Not enough blood to fill half a thimble. If it was findable, THAT dog would have found it. The deer that was jumped was a different buck.

Imteresting! I would be upset about the hog!! I've had a similar situation happen like that recently and was Not happy when we found the hog. No one said anything about the deer and the hog being shot and there being 2 blood trails!!

            X10 at least!!
It depends on the dog but a GOOD, properly trained dog can make a track several days after the kill.
And I mean a properly trained dog . The next day shouldn't be a problem at all. Where was the deer shot. If it's not to far I may be able to help your buddy out. I have a Walker Coon Hound that hasn't started on too many he couldn't find

You won't find a better dog than the one they used. If there wasn't enough sign for THAT dog, the deer is not findable.

I didn't read all the posts before I posted. Never got to where he said they'd brought a dog in
Wasn't tryin to imply that my dog was better and could find what others couldn't

I used AJ Minns on 48 hour old blood. Dog went to him in 20 minutes about 1/2 mile away. Ive used 2 dogs since that were very young with no finds. It depends all on the dog and his experience. No way will I allow another young dog to track my deer if I ever have to call one again. They just chase to many false trails and play too much. Get an experienced dog and experienced handler. You will have to pay either way, may as well ask for the best you can get. Get to know handlers in your area before the season also so you know in advance who to call and don't have to do a search the day of....
