The wife and I just had it out. Not too bad but I told her I wanted another bow. Luxury, just to have not a necessity. Told her I'd buy used and I'd do bush Hog work Over the summer to pay for it so it wouldn't have to come out of our checking account. We only have 1 joint checking account, which is how we want it. Obviously if we can't afford it I figured this was the best way to get it. Wife gets mad saying she gets a decent Christmas Bonus every year and never spends it on herself and buys the family Christmas with it. Said it's not common sense to spend $$ on things like that when the extra money could take care of necessities. So I guess I just have to do without. Oh well. I just stopped talking and let it go.

My deduction from the post is that you have a bow, just WANT a second one?

Here is the only way to solve this issue. You and her need an allowance. A monthly portion of money that is set aside for EACH of you to do what ever you want with.
I promise you you can sell her on this idea. Even your brush hog money needs to go to the general fund and you and her each take out your allowance. Sounds pretty simple but it works. As you both progress in your life and make more money the allowance gets bigger that you both agree on.
My wife is a stay home mom and she has had issues with spending money on herself. We have worked out a plan that allows her to spend her portion on whatever she wants.
It may take you 2 years to save the money you need to spend but it will be worth it.
Not sure how old you are or how long you have been married but advice from guys that have been down your path is priceless. Trust Me!
Good Luck
