boy thats a tough one. If you love the job more than the 10 hour a week drive and major fuel costs…. go for it. If it puts more stress on you…naaaaa hope it all works out for you

Based on the money alone I would say it is borderline when you look at taxes taken out and wear and tear on your vehicle along with fuel cost. 10k is about 190.00 a week so when you remove taxes and fuel it is certainly less. Job wise it depends on if you like your current job and possibility of advancement staying where you are at or does the other have more upside long term vs the one you have now. Got to look at all of the angles rather than just the money imo. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Heck no - that is 2hrs less per day that I get to be with my wife and boys - not even close to worth it for me - $27.40 per day extra gross pay - not a chance

my current car gets 35mpg so its not really an issue and my current commute is 35 minutes so its really only an extra 25 mins. its beer30 so doing some math will come tomorrow

It's all about the opportunity, and benefits. Driving is nothing for me, I drive a little hybrid and fuel is almost nothing even with a 3 hour round trip commute. The good thing is that I get 2 audio books in a week

My wife went through this and the difference was 3x what you're discussing here. Wasn't worth it.

If it is 60 miles each way, figure .55 per mile total driving costs, including depreciation for the mileage. That totals to $66 per day, times 5 is $330 per week in expense. $10K per year raise is only about $192 per week. Then 2 more hours of your life every day.
You can figure the rest. Personally, looking back I have spent way too much of my life driving back and forth to work.

I wouldn't do it. To be honest, I wouldn't do it for $20k more so I'm probably a bad one to ask.lol

For me I look at is as a 40 hour work week turning into a 50 hour work week. Plus the fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle and I don't like driving so my sanity is worth something. I also think it depends on how bad you need the money.

I just couldn't justify it but I'm one of these people who would rather make less money, be happier and content with what I've got and have more time to be at home and with my family vs sitting in a car. I also understand that money might be a huge help to your family too, so it really depends.

It would cost you more $ than what your raise is - now if it was a $30,000/yr raise then it would decision making time for me

If you are currently making 30k it might be worth it, if you make 100k maybe not. 10K can either change your life style or have little overall impact.
