It almost looks like there was placement for an O-ring on the back of the blades and there is no O-ring there now, so i am saying yes, cause maybe they opened and then closed after it passed through.

There is no way to tell except to examine the carcass. My mechanicals are always closed on the exit but when I open up the critter it's quite obvious the the blades deployed.

I'll guess yes untill there is further evidence.

when fix heads are virtually fail proof the question is
Why would anyone use a mechanical?

I will tell the whole story tomorrow night along with my thoughts.

Again, this head is NOT broken in any shape form or fashion. This is how it is designed and looks with the blades closed.

Ok I see that now. Small head when closed I guess.

I reteracte my former post ... New opinion ... if she croaked after 40 yards, the broadhead did what it was supposed to do. I've had deer run way over 40 yards after being shot with a reasonably decent rifle. .06 .. .270 ... .264 Win mag ... 6.5 Swede ... and few others. I hope everything I shoot piles up within 40 yards.

Yes, those blades can swivel, but I could be wrong.

O ring missing. Guess they deployed. Weird design.

I say yes based only on the O-ring being gone. I think this head is designed like the rocky mtn gators and the blades swing freely around bone, but slide back into the bottom of the ferrule unlike the gators.
