I think I know who's shooting deer in the neck and face...

Was at Cabelas earlier looking for a crossbow for my dad and daughter. While I was waiting for help, The guy in front of me was wanting to buy the fastest compound bow made. He said his bow wasn't getting enough penetration at 100-110 yards...

Ok, I know that I'm a noob...but I lurked here for quite some time and have never read about anyone taking these type of shots. Am I off base? If so, sorry for being misguided.

I definitely would not recommend it.

Now with that said. I bought a PSE TAC 15 about 3 years ago when I had shoulder trouble. I could easily shoot 2 inch groups at 75 yards. However I wouldn't shoot a deer at that distance.

I heard a story on 1080AM this morning that a woman in New Jersey saw a deer with an arrow through its head. She called the police and Fish and Game Dept came out. A couple of days later the saw the deer again. They Shot it with a dart gun and then removed the arrow.

What a lucky deer. Sad that it had to go through all of that. But, at least it survived.

I have trouble getting penetration at 100-110 yards as well. This is mostly because for my longbow to reach 100 yards, the trajectory is such that gravity just about the only force on the arrow by the time it reaches the target - like just dropping the arrow from a hovering helicopter

How does taking 100 yard shots equate to shooting deer in the neck and face?

I think the OP is implying one's accuracy is not good at 100 yards and therefore hit a deer in the head while aiming at vitals?

I routinely make clean kills at over 100 yards. I have never had a problem with penetration either, always get pass throughs and good blood trails.

On Cabela's trophy hunter on PS3 that is...Never have taken a shot over 30 at a whitetail.

Because they have time to do the hokey pokey and turn themselves around after the cannon shot of a cross bow goes off.

Deer hears a crossbow go off, spins and twists while shot is in air and gets whacked in da face! At least that would be my guess...

A 100 yard shot with a crossbow is NOT bowhunting. I still can't believe the tpwd changed the rules on using a crossbow.
                          Just my opinion of course.....

Aww ok... yall think the guy was asking about a crossbow.

The OP was looking for a crossbow.

The guy at the counter was looking for a BOW for 100 yard shots... I've never shot a crossbow so I have no base knowledge of them... But, I know if I was shooting my bow that far I'd be skipping arrows and hitting them in their legs

Love my crossbow. If compounders have an issue with them then lets all go back to trad.
I have no prob and shoot all three. Plus... shotguns and rifles.
Ethics are either there or not. Don't blame the eqpt.
Not all crossbows are loud. The upper models are a lot quieter than you realize.
Especially with a silencing kit installed.
