    Tablets?

I am thinking about getting my Dad a tablet, but have a couple questions first. Are there any tablets that you can view sd cards and save pics with? My Dad has never owned a computer and still carries a flip phone, but he does have 10 or so trail cams he runs year around. He currently views the pics on his tv via a sd card viewer and rca inputs. When he has any good pics to share with me he prints them out on his stand alone printer. I would love for him to have the capability of checking and saving pics in the field. I know a laptop would work in this situation, but would prefer something more compact and portable. He wouldn't need one with a data plan...he can just use the wifi at work or his friends house when needed. Any suggestions on tablets to look at or even ones to stay away from?

    Thanks,
    Brandon

Thats what I use my iPad for. It fits in my hunting backpack and I have a SD card reader that plugs into it where the power cord goes. It downloads the pics fairly quickly but deleting them is a PITA.

This is why I have double the number of SD cards as I have cameras. When I go to check pics, I just swap cards, then bring them home and use the desktop. Way simpler and I have them on the hard drive if I have any I want to save.

Same here...bring extra SD cards, swap out the ones in the cam and view at the lease on the iPad. Bring the cards home and delete/save, etc.
The card reader I use is similar to below....bout $8!

Use the micro sd cards with the adapter. Plug micro card in my surface pro and save what I want on the hard drive and use windows explorer to view and manage them like a laptop.

Not an option since he doesn't own a computer.

He already has 2 cards for each camera since he has to view them at home. I guess he doesnt have to view them in the field, however I would like for him to have a a little more flexibility on when and where he views them. I also would like him to have the ability to save select pics and email to me if he wants to.

If he doesn't have a computer he will at least need a smart phone or similar device if you want him to email you certain pics. The iPad will serve for viewing the pics and he can always just take a "snapshot" of the ones he wants to save and send to you.
That's what I do sometimes. View the pics, take a snapshot of the ones I want to keep and put the card back in the cam and delete everything.

I assumed he would be able to email the pics from the tablet as long as he had a connection via wifi.

If you really want the best of the best, look at the Microsoft Surface and compare the Ipad and the Surface. The surface is AWESOME and blows the Ipad out of the water. Cheaper too!

Get a cheap digital camera and delete pics from the camera. Use the tablet to view them. If there are no keeper pics put in camera hit delete all and you are done. Or if there are keeper pics use I pad to screenshot the pic

Last year at Christmas we bought the kids D2 pads from big Lots they were 65 bucks and the have the micro sd slot and you can save the pics to it . They run on the android market . I also found some on E Bay that were water proof might want to check those out also.

Multiple SD cards is the only way to do it. That's how we do it in Oklahoma and I can pull a used card and pop in a fresh one, then view the pics when I get settled in the tree or pop up or look at them when I get back to camp. Then, as already stated, I can email when I get a wifi signal. For weight, convenience and viewing clarity, I don't know if you can beat an iPad or similar tablet.

Deleting them is no big deal...he can do that with the trail cam. I am primarily concerned with viewing capabilities, saving, and sending.
