Axis to the East?
Originally posted by Sticks&Strings View PostOr, maybe it has to do with the fact that you may not have a single mature wt buck on the entire place you are hunting in East tx. It's very easy to call a deer smart because you have a trail camera pic of him once or twice but can't put your eyes on him during the day. Maybe he's smart, maybe he's on the place two properties over during daylight hours due to food, cover, etc. Really there is no argument to compare the two. If you can, let's hear it. Why are east texas whitetail considered smarter than any other whitetail in your mind? The only way to truly know is to compare a herd of each species in the same environment to know. Anything else is just an opinion. Mine included. I am judging my opinion off of hunting two herds in the same environment. I've killed way more mature whitetails than I've had an opportunity at with axis. Probably even with a lower density level of whitetails than axis, the big mature bulls are just very very leery. And they rut differently so their isn't that period where they just lose their mind chasing does and fighting.
Lmfao!!!! Wrong again. Biggest killed on our place was my baby sister at 152 2/8. I have 2 mature bucks over here I'm Montgomery county. Massive thick 8, short points and a decent 10 about 135ish. I was raised in deep East Texas on 98 acres. Don't try and talk to me like I am a city boy that's never been in the woods bro.
Oh FTR. Smarter is really an improper word I'm thinking. But they are a helluva lot spookier. And that's just a known fact. And I think they are part bat!

Age is what's important. And the fact is, there aren't as many mature deer per acre in East tx as there is in South texas. Too many meat hunters. Too many people per square mile, and too many outlaws. Your inability or lack of willingness to explain how you are comparing the two isn't by accident. It's because you have never hunted a free range herd of axis in East Texas. Because they don't exist. May have a rogue single every now and then, but not a herd. We have hundreds of both species. I can compare the two pretty well. And I've grown up hunting 500+ acres in Leon County my entire life. So I know a little too. Heaven forbid I know. We can agree to disagree but to say one person knows better than the other is like measuring units.
He wasn't young.
