    Anyone use leasehunter.com?

    Hey all,

After moving down hear 7 years ago from Michigan, where I hunted almost weekly during the season, I am finally getting back in to it. I bought a new bow but my wife and I had a child recently (wasn't planned but the best things aren't always planned) so I had to push back on getting a lease until 2014-2105. I was wondering if anyone has used leasehunter.com or Mike Hopkins for finding a deer lease. I have three to four guys interested in one for less than 2k a year for an annual lease that we can renew on a yearly basis. Thanks for your input or any other suggestions on where to look to find a lease.

Mike Hopkins leases are jokes.... Or atleast the 3 i saw of his where... He gave me directions over the phone, and went by in advance and unlocked gates ... Never even saw the guy... Stay away.

Lease hunter is full of middle men trying to make money off you.

Best way to find a lease is to go knocking on doors, ask them if they want to lease or know of anybody that does, get numbers, be friendly, go to your local feed store and ask them for leads.

I use lease hunter. This year my family was scheduled to do a meat hull hunt in november and early this month it got canceled. I've been apart of lease hunter for two years now and so hopped on the sight. I found a great deal for my family and have booked another meat hull hunt. I find it to be a great website and has a good amount of leases. Yes there might be some middle men involved but from the ranches that I have talked to i usually am able to speak directly with the ranch owner. However more of my contacting has been for this meat hull which is typically with high fenced managed ranches. I think its a good website to start out with finding what areas might have lease openings and such. Then maybe you can go out there and try to ask around for other possible leases that are not listed and usually word of mouth

Stay as far away as you can. No problem with a middle man, landlord or ranch manager but be sure that all of them have the proper paperwork to lease, run or manage the hunting rights. Handshakes are a thing of the past. I come from the old school, but I have to work in the present, so that means I have to run a business straight up.

Not for me. I agree that knocking on doors and asking 'round here is probably the best way to go. Or even classified ads in local papers would be better than on-line leases.

I'd put my name in for TPWD drawings before I'd do that.

But a handshake is what got me on the property me and my kids have enjoyed for the past 4 years now, and a lot of sweat equity and a watchful eye is what's kept me on there.

I can put you in contact with the right people. I'll send you a PM. How far out are you willing to travel from Keller?

I was wondering the same thing. Figured he meant a "meat haul hunt" and was autocorrected. Ie not about the trophy, more about haulin' in the meat.

Just to clarify, that is $2k per year each correct? That is close to doable. To get something really good you might have to bump that a little bit per spot.

I've looked on leasehunter but never tried getting a lease through them. We found ours on Craigslist. Has been a great lease but you usually have to be the first person to see one on there or it will be gone.

Hand shake almost got me a hefty fine. Older gentleman said hand shake is as good as my name. Well I guess his name was crooked sum buck.
Turns out the guy I leased from was only leading grazing rights from actual land owner.
Pretty interesting conversation when the real land owner drove his truck right up to my feeder on opening morning of rifle season a several years back.
Never saw the guy before so I was ******. He didn't know somebody was hunting his land so he was ****** too.
Fortunately cooler heads prevailed and a valuable lesson was learned. I will never lease with out a contract again and doubt I'd go through a leasing agent.

Most Chamber of Commerce have a list of property owners who wish to lease for hunting. Identify your area and check the Chamber of Commerce! Friends, TBH always verify and get lease in writing before you agree or give money (if you cannot get in writing stay away). Good luck to you.

I used lease hunter and found a great lease, it was actually a listing by a TBHer. Unfortunately I moved or I'd still be there hunting.
