Everything you have described indicates a liver shot. Quick pass through hitting no bone, behind the rib cage. Dark red blood in clumps clotting up.

This is a dead deer if you let him die. If you have a lantern find him tonight. If you do not have a good bright white light, wait until you can see better. You will find him.

      I didn't think about liver.
It's always hard to replay a shot in your head without a camera. We always assume that we hit them better than we do.
He was slightly moving when I shot. I yelled at him 3 times before he stopped, but I don't remember him filling stopping and looking at me.

Blood played out about 40 minutes ago. The blood was specs and getting further and further apart. I can see several natural trails and have walked them looking for blood. I've also walked the path of less resistance since deer normal go with the easiest way. I have search around the water source I know of.
I'm not sure I killed this deer.

You really should get a dog on it if it's legal in your area. Good luck.

                    Get a dog

If that deer fell after the shot, you hit more than brisket

Thanks. But I'm not in Dewitt.

Neighbors, small acreage and circumstances won't allow a dog.
