    The Void

Didn't want to hijack another thread on here so I thought I would start a new one. This void issue has probably been discussed before but I have to ask those of you who keep refering to "the void", where exactly do you think this void exist?

Between the top of the lungs and the backbone

Yeah, there is no space between the lungs and spine. It's not there, no void.

There's a huge void between a deer's front legs and back legs just below the belly. I know a lot of people that have hit that void and I guarantee that deer will live.

Found this old post, via google not the search function This pretty well sums it up, it is possible to hit above the spine and have a nonlethal hit but there is not void between the lungs and spine.

The white spot just below the green line is the spinal chord. It's lower than most people think.

There is no void between the lungs and the vertebrae. But there is a large area above the spinal chord that will make a loud "thwack" as the spinal process is broken. It's the same thickness as a rib and sounds identical when you shoot through it.

If the green line represented an arrow, you would hear one heck of a "thwack," but the deer would survive.

I read that also.....I recant my previous post.

I guess one would say the "void" is the area above the backbone

No such thing. Lungs. Spine. Or backstrap.

No such thing as a void....the spine is much lower than folks think and the lungs adhere to the top of the cavity. More often then not, they shoot over the spine when thinking they hit the mythical "void"....aka backstrapped 'em..

Ha! There's only a couple inches difference between lungs/spine/backstrap on those little hill country deer anyway.

Heck, our deer are so little they don't even have backstraps, just an extra set of tenders on the top
