              I have never have seen the purple ones, I have only seen red ones, watched a doe with a nubbin buck feed on the red ones last year

                        Glad to know the proper name for 'em... we always called them "French Mulberries"... Squirrels like 'em too... Sometimes the deer eat 'em so much it turns their droppings kind of purple... same for squirrels.

                          We have always called those "deer berries", they are not plentiful on the coast but those that do grow get whacked. The lease in jasper county has tons of em and they get some grazing, but not as much as near the salt water.

                                Are these the same as Spanish Mulberries? That's what we (and the biologist) call them and he deer love them.
