Yep I've been hunting in the Sam Houston NF over those berry patches for years! Yes, deer do love them

Interesting, I've seen those all my life and never knew deer liked them or that they were edible.

We have them everywhere, and I mean everywhere, on our place near Easterly, and I've never seen the deer go after them. Maybe it's a case of fewer options further east?

                  american beauty berry

they eat the berries, leaves, and soft limbs at our place

in some areas I can tell where the "browse-line" is from the ground up to about 50" high

There ya go. In two weeks, I will be able to see a browse line here.

I read where they will add 25% of their body weight eating them, seems high, but they do love them.

Another plant I have noticed getting hammered by deer is pokeweed.

that may be. when they get ripe, deer will spend a couple of weeks slamming them here and then taper odd. I always see an immediate impact at the feeders when a big crop gets ripe.

                                Little confirmation

Dad killed a doe Sun morning that was so full of those leaves and berries that he said he bet she couldn't eat another one
