Want To Know Where Your East tx Deer Went?

If they really slacked on your corn in the last week, this is likely why. The American Beauty Berry! This year we have one of the biggest crops ever in east tx. In the DCNF, they just go on for miles and miles. Deer absolutely love them. Berries and leaves. The problem is that they can reach all they can eat without moving a step!

Nope, as a matter of fact, I ate that handful in the pics. They aren't great but are edible for humans.

I got em all over my place. Rolled up on my 4wheeler,stopped, and there's a doe 10 yds munchin on those berries. I talked to her for a couple minutes till she wandered off. Not many pics at feeders lately.

                      More info on human consumption:

A blog is about the wild edible and medicinal plants of Texas and North America. It is run by chemist herbalist Dr. Mark Merriwether Vorderbruggen.

I have never seen deer eat these. That's since I started hunting in the mid seventies.

That explains where I see huge clusters missing off the plants. I always herd they were poisonous also. Great info! Thx steve

They absolutely love them here. They will eat some leaves along with the berries.
