I've probably killed twice the amount of birds with a 20, didn't start shooting a 12 till a few years ago. Each serve their purpose, don't know if I could own one over the other, but this post inspired me to dust off the old Remington sportsman 58 in 20 gauge and shoot a few dove.

I promise, you still have to aim...

I am faster with my 20 but the 12 is better for long shots or high birds.

How bout this......the best dove gun I ever had was a Remington 1100 with a short stock to fit me when I was young. 16 guage. Why not split the difference and end the argument.

Yeah, the 16 guage is the ULTIMATE dove gun. LOL.

Wouldn't really say that, Smart. I've bought two of them in the last 10 days, a Vildiz (throw away gun) and a Benelli Montefrecho. GOD what we do for our kids. I shot a Sears and Robuck bolt action 20 gauge until I was 14.

Haven't had any issues finding applicable loads for my quarry. You are going to pretty much have a matching 20 gauge load for every 12 gauge load these days. Well at least here in civilization....
Maybe so. It's been a long time since I bought any 20ga ammo. They still suck, whatever the ammo costs.

What 20 guage shell is equal to a 12 guage 3 1/2 inch magnum 000 Buck?

Nobody I hunt with shoots those shoulder thumpin' overrated 3.5" Roman candle shells in lead or steel. Big time overkill.

I just HAD to have a Super Black Eagle 3 1/2" when they came out, can't stand that thing. I wish I could swap it for a field grade 16ga SXS.....

Great article I though might help you.

Our tests at a high-tech ballistic research laboratory may change the way you buy loads and guns...and even how you hunt.

My personal preferance is a cordoba in 20.
I want a legacy in 28 for quail though.

Same here except I love the gun, I just don't use the 3.5" receiver.....I've considered selling mine for cash to put towards an M-2 12ga or another 20 ga O/U...
