She excels in all of those areas.

It's just letter recognition that's her problem.
Everything is a matter of degrees. She may not have all of the symptoms and it may not be dyslexia. Have you mentioned this at all to your pediatrician at her well checks?

      Never thought to.
Just answer the questions asked and that wasn't one of them.

You pay them good money. They are there to help with all aspects of your child's growth and development. Kid's don't come with a users manual, your pediatrician is there for any and all questions. Call the office tomorrow and tell them you have a question about your daughter's learning pace in this area. I bet you $10 the pediatrician will call you back and give you some feedback over the phone

Has she been in day care or in kindergarten yet?

If you have an iPad, get the ABC mouse game. My 4 year old loves it.

I think we may have a winner. Only time will tell.

I took 26 pieces of construction paper and put each letter on one.
Aa Bb Cc and so on.

She looked at one sheet for a while.
I told her to trace it with her finger and say the letter.
Did that for a while then I took it away.
I asked her what the letter was.
And gave her a page out of a book (kids book)
Gave her a pen and told her to circle ever "A" and "a" she could find.

She did really good and there wasn't any frustration.
But she knows the letter "A" already..... So only time will tell.
                    This is good

I agree with this! I'm a diagnosed Dyslexic, and it took 14 years before anyone figured it out. I had no problems reading, nor writing, my spelling was meh, but my reading comprehension and immediate letter or number recognition is slow (I either mis read something or invert the letters or numbers). Ask to meet with the diagnostician/LSSP at her school about testing (public school).

She's only 5? Maybe she's just getting bored. Maybe try making a game out of it so its fun to learn. But at 5, I think your getting frustrated with it way too soon. She has years if school ahead of her. Buy tons of books, read to her every night and remind her how smart she is every day. She'll get it...

I'd give kindergarten some time. My grandaughter wasn't that great at it either, but once she started kindergarten, I could see improvements almost every day. I think once they get around other kids it becomes almost a competitive thing with them. Hang in there.

                              starfall.com

I am absolutely amazed at what it did for my four year old. We help (alot), but 20 or so minutes a day on that site works wonders.
