I use 30lb braided line with a 20# 4' mono leader. I know its over kill, but I love the sensitivity of the braided line. If you are using your bass reel, first chance you get, wash the reel out really well. I usually put them in the shower for a good soaking.
My go to bait for reds is a 6" pumpkinseed colored culprit bass worm Texas rigged. It catches them when everything else fails. That combo absolutely kills the reds for us when fishing around Port A.
I use #8 mono and catch about everything I need to- I go offshore adn surface fish with #15- If IM at the jetties fishing the rocks I may use #50 braid. My friends fish with #15 in the flats and I usually outfish them- think the light line lets the bait work better.
