I haven't decided yet. ;-) I keep going back and forth but I am leaning toward the big one. I figure it might come in handy if my mini split in the main room goes out. I still have a couple weeks to decide. Any more input is welcome.
By the way... the condensation will drain into a big utility sink right below the unit. At least that is what i have planned.
I guess I am in the minority but I just hate over sized equipment. I get that it, isn't that much more money, but what do you gain? The room will cool down faster, that is about the only advantage I see. You are not trying to make it a walk in cooler.
I am installing a 24000 btu unit today at our place in Paris. 12 x 55 tornado magnet that we have had on the place forever. Had central air at one time till a coil leak. Put a 12000 in there and it was just ok. That one bit the dust and now I have the 24000 that is going in. I will let you know how it works. I know its not the same since my place is like a 55 foot hallway, but I am a fan of bigger is better.
If you can get a 10,000 btu unit for the same price as an 8,000 btu model would you get the bigger one even though the room doesn't require one that big? Will it be more efficient since it is too big for the room?
Like I overheard my Grandfather tell the guy at the hardware store one time. " I need an ac with enough B T U's to cool a B U T the size of a T U B"......
