My guess is that one of them is a female and the others where males. I believe the female gives off pheramones when they are ready to breed which attracts the males. That might explain the number of them in a close proximity.

A friends son killed all 8 of these in one area within 2 minutes. Pretty well freaked him out just as bad as yourself.

Yea my brother still lives at our home place in Parker County and last year I think he killed 17!!!! While growing up there I ran across many of them mean dudes! They have an attitude and will get after you! I havent seen many times will they will retreat! Glad your ok bud!
