I've never understood the whole farm plates thing. 95% of the vehicles that have them are everyday drivers. And I especially don't understand when a person has a brand new $60,000 truck and they try to save money by getting those. But I've never claimed to be the smartest guy in the world.

I'm not sure if its still this way , but, in the past, if you had farm plates and you were hauling ANYTHING other than farm related items your insurance wouldn't pay if you had a wreck.
I followed a man yesterday up 35W with farm tags and he had a ladder rack full of ladders and a bed full of lumber and a sign on both doors.

I, the undersigned owner of the Farm Truck / Farm Truck Tractor described above, state that the vehicle will be operated
for the purpose of transporting my own poultry, dairy, livestock, livestock products, timber in its natural state, and farm
products to market or to other points for sale or processing, or the transportation of laborers from their place of residence,
and materials, tools, equipment and supplies, without charge, from the place of purchase or storage to my own farm or
ranch, exclusively for my own use on such farm or ranch. The vehicle will also be used as the means of passenger
transportation, without charge, only by the members of my family to attend church or school, to visit doctors for medical
treatment or supplies, and for other necessities of the home and family. The vehicle will not be used in connection with
other gainful employment. I further state that the description of the vehicle and the weights shown above are true and
                correct.

The form, and rules for use are outlined at the link below.

Sounds like you can use it for everything but a second job.

Why not try to get farm tags yourself? Then you won't be as mad, or as broke.

When I looked at farm tags for a vehicle it would only save $7 a year on truck. On a trailer I ONLY use them for their intended purpose...everything is for the farm anyway. I do have a real tagged car hauler, don't want to push my luck.

My uncle got busted hauling business stuff in farm tagged trailer said its not worth it.

Wife has a picture of a realtor with magnet signs on a farm tag vehicle.

i don't know about that, but when i switched the 90 f250 over, it cut the fees in half(about 45 buck).
