Very true. I have played around with calling and decoy spreads but now I have learned to just kinda toss em out in a natural looking spread ( no shapes or make a certain letter with em) and make sure you give the birds a spot to land where you want to shoot em. But concealment is the biggest thing. If they see you no matter how well you call or how great your decoys and decoy spread looks they aint coming in. If you can learn to blow a whistle and do a few quacks then thats all you need to really kill ducks. Just dont over call. I have seen a ton of people just flat blow ducks out of a pond because they want to blow the duck call like its a musical insturament.

Get one of these and start practicing. I agree with others about scouting and being where the birds want to be but things can change overnight and the ducks are headed somewhere else. Being able to blow a call well and knowing when to call and what call to make can turn a slow hunt into a limit.
Just don't turn in to that guy who blows a hail call all morning long!! Good luck!

buy an echo poly diamondwood. Its a double reed insert with a diamondwood barrel. They are only about 45 dollars on echos website. Very forgiving and easy to use and good to learn on. They dont stick much and very ducky, that very call has won the world live duck calling championship before with kent cullum. So its great for beginners all the way up to advanced. good luck.

This is more important than being able to run a comp routine on a call
