I thought I had it bad because I have to get up at night sometimes to go pee.
I pray that you guys are able to get a full night's sleep at least every once in a while.
I also pray that you and your neighbor never do these perimeter sweeps at the same time in the middle of the night.

Our little dog alerts to even the smallest noise outside. A couple of years ago we had someone crash into our car while it sat in the driveway and have had gas siphoned from our vehicles. For me every noise or bark gets investigated with either a loaded gun or my bow.

Thanks, now I have a mental image of some guy running around in his yard in the middle of the night, in his boxers, with a bow and arrow.

Yes you need help! I would call someone today and get counseling. This is NOT normal behaviour. You need to speak with someone asap.

Sounds normal to me. I wouldn't be too hasty about going to the VA.
                  Just my opinion.
A tomahawk and a knife are good weapons for close range and less likely for you to make a mistake. A pistol in the pants would be good backup for more time and distance.
                  Just my opinion also.
Drive on and try not to dwell on it.

Going on 4 deployments now, I use to do the same things. I will say though there is a difference between situational awareness, and Hyper Vigilance. I highly recommend you talk to someone. There is no shame in it. I did it, and I know many guys that have. What is a shame is when someone doesn't get the help they need because they think it is normal. Did you do these things before your deployment? most likey not, and that is not normal. I would strongly recommend you go talk to someone. It's free.

I may be in the minority here, but I would say anyone who regularly goes outside in the middle of the night with his pistol drawn either lives in a very bad area or is just a little paranoid.

I hope that y'all at least live out in the country. I can see only bad results from doing this in a neighborhood.
