This is a serious question. I've been toying with the idea of going to the dr for "PTSD" I hate that dang acronym but idk.. Just a few minutes ago, my gf was sleep and dream talking. Said something about a motor outside, so immediately grab the pistol, chamber a round, grab the flashlight, and proceed to do a hasty perimeter search of my house at the ready. Is that normal or should I suck it up ad go see a dr for a diagnosis I think is just them being lazy and finding a scape goat?

some times I will do the loaded perimeter check when I hear funny noises outside, or when the wife says in a concerned voice to check outside.
I have not seen action, and do not suffer from ptsd ;but don't want anyone not welcome in my space.
But if you feel in your gut, that maybe you take something to far to fast, or you might shoot first ask questions later. then maybe you should talk to, or see someone about it. if not then maybe it could be normal for a armed citizen concerned about his family and property.
If nothing else, talking to a fellow soldier may ease your concerns.
Good luck, and Thank for your service, and hope what I said helps.Last edited by texxfletch; 05-31-2013, 11:17 PM.

I'm guessing we've been to some of the same places. I clear my house at night quite often. If I hear a noise outside, I go outside and clear the outside of my house. I think that's pretty normal.
Do you feel like the "possible PTSD" is interfering with your daily life? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. How long has it been since you got back?

I'm not real sure how to answer your question. I think your reaction to your girlfriends sleep talking is pretty normal for most of us around these parts. However, if you think something could be going on, I would say go ahead and see someone. Probably wouldn't hurt anyway with the exposure you have had to traumatic situations(judging by other posts).
Thank you for your service...

well, for us,("normal joes") it is hard to give good advice.
1- we(I) do not know what you are exactly going threw.
2-we (I) do not have a degree in phycology
3-we (I) do want you ,to feel like you can trust yourself.
as mentioned earlier some people feel the need to check out there surroundings, but if you think that you maybe taking it more like a fire watch......then maybe you could talk to someone......I wish you all the best brother. And if you feel the need to talk. the gs could be a good ear to bend.
but looking at the post in this thread.... your actions seem normal.Last edited by texxfletch; 05-31-2013, 11:33 PM.
