I'm seriously considering tucking a stand off in this mess. Most of the older bucks cross right by it, but I guess if anything it could result in some productive scouting being able to watch over 1200yds of cross-traffic.

Hell yeah. I'd do it. We've got on big lonely oak out in the middle of one of our pastures and deer walk right out underneath that thing to pick up acorns. If I had a stand in it I could chunk spears at 'em a la Tim Wells.

Is there any other Shelby county hunters on this thread?

Just got on a lease in Shelby county this year. Loggers gutted it and it will be planted in pines, probably in the middle of deer season, but we're excited. The place has a lot going for it. We're in for the long haul.

Think I will quit feeders. I seem to get more daytime pics when I only hand throw corn and hunt from a tree. The floods really changed the lay of the land along the Sabine river. The deer are already back on the deer cain that was under water for 2 months.
My box floated off and I have a new deer trail within 10 yds of where it stood. I think I will keep it simple this year.

I am going to try feeders this year and see how it goes. But, I also plan to have one stand that I hand corn only. My plan is to have the feeders off to the side of the main trails. So, deer can easily go to them, but they can skirt them by using the trails. That way I can hunt the trail and the feeder at the same time.

Test your feeder if you put in the shade. You might get a mold issue. I set all of mine in th sunniest spot, no mold! If no mold fill er up!
